Falling in Love with Makeup
I’ve always had a love for all things girly, but it wasn’t until recently that I really decided to delve into the world of makeup. With two small kids and the non-paying job of staying home and caring for them, it’s easy to go throughout the day without bothering to fix my hair or put on mascara. Besides, they seem to love me the same no matter what I look like, so why bother right?
Wrong.
All that did was leave me feeling frumpy, ugly and run-down. The problem I had when trying to do my makeup was that I didn’t know what I was doing, and that frustrated me. I contemplated going to a salon or spa and pay for a makeup lesson, but I realized that I would be at the mercy of the makeup artist and I may or may not like their style. Plus, I had a problem paying $30-$50 for one lesson, so I never went that route. Instead, I found free lessons, thousands of them!
I found the beauty guru’s on YouTube and instantly fell in love!
Through YouTube, I’ve learned the best products to use, both high-end and the cheaper drug-store products. I’ve learned how to apply eyeshadow, blend, and how to make my eyes appear larger, rounder and more defined using eyeliner. I finally learned how to use concealer, apply foundation and sculpt my face using bronzer. Possibly my favorite discovery was false eyelashes, which I learned to apply with ease so that I don’t always wait for a special occasion to wear them.
One day, I’d like to run a successful YouTube channel with beauty videos that inspire women the way these videos have helped me. Taking a few minutes for myself each morning has changed my life and my self-esteem in a way that few other things have. It makes me feel so much better to put on a little makeup and define my eyes and now that I know how to do these things, it’s so much easier, faster and I feel so much more confident in the finished product. I think the reason so many stay-at-home moms don’t bother is because they’ve never been taught or taken the time to learn for themselves. With YouTube, there’s really no excuse not to learn to do beautiful makeup yourself. With the advancement in makeup formulations, you can get some great products at the drugstore, so if the financial aspect is a concern, it can be erased as well. For example, Ulta, an amazing cosmetics store, often has sales where you can buy one get one free, or buy one get one half off. They carry a mixture of high-end and drugstore brands.
And…did you know that as long as you save your receipt, if you buy any type of makeup and don’t like it for whatever reason, most stores will refund or exchange it for you?! I always worried about buying the wrong lipstick or foundation color, but since I found this out, I’m willing to experiment more since I know I’m not wasting my money if I don’t like the product.
To introduce you to a couple of my favorite beauty guru’s as they’re called, check out these links:
Emily (Beauty Broadcast): A gorgeous news anchor from Illinois who fell in love with makeup the same way I did and has experimented and taught herself along the way. Very well spoken and she focuses on both drugstore brands as well as a few high-end brands as well, showing her viewers that makeup can be very affordable!
Marlena (MakeUpGeek): A makeup artist with her own line of makeup. She’s also a gorgeous curvy woman with a bubbly and friendly personality. She does a lot of awesome tutorials and explains WHY you do different steps so that way you really understand. It seems like if we met in real life, we’d probably get along really well.
Tiffany D: Another professional makeup artist. She’s very pretty and gives excellent detailed tutorials and reviews on different products. I really like her.
Kandee Johnson: A professional makeup artist with such a cute and quirky personality. She is also a mom of 4 children and one of the coolest things about her is that her youngest was born at home in a planned homebirth!
Nicole Guerriero: I found this channel last summer when searching for hair extension reviews. This girl is so pretty and says what is on her mind! I think she’s really funny to watch.
Lisa: A recent discovery from the last two weeks. Lisa is very pretty and after watching her videos, seems very down to earth! Her skin is so beautiful and she takes a little more time with most of her videos and doesn’t worry about editing them to perfection. I really like that. She’s a stay at home mom, but her husband must be very successful at whatever he does because she shops A LOT but I can’t hate for that! She’s probably the oldest of all the women I watch on TV, but that inspiring as well! I hope I look like that when I’m in my 40′s!
If you watch any of these guru’s or have other favorites of your own, please comment below and let me know! I’m always looking for other people to watch and learn from! I hope you enjoy these!
