When Everything Changes

With Demand Studios, all I needed was my laptop to generate an income.
When my good friend, Anne, introduced me to Demand Studios in 2009, I didn’t think I could be a writer. Grammar wasn’t really my strong point in high school and since I went to nursing school, I didn’t take any English classes at all. When our budget got tighter, I realized I needed to do something from home to help pay the bills and offer an extra cushion, so I took a chance and applied.
What do you know? They accepted me!
Within a week, I was accepted to write for LiveSTRONG, which offered higher paying articles. Within a short time after that, I gained an even more specialized part of the site known as LiveSTRONG Health. Those articles paid even higher! God provided an answer to my “work-from-home” request and it was something that not only paid weekly, but twice a week! Every Tuesday and Friday, my good ol’ paycheck dropped into my Paypal account and I had immediate access with my Paypal debit card. What more could a mother ask for?
Over the course of the past two years, I’ve written about 1000 articles for Demand Studios. I’ve been able to help my husband pay bills, I’ve paid for trips, paid a good chunk of our vacation this past summer and put groceries on the table with the extra money I brought in. Many months, my income exceeded $1000. Not too bad for a job that didn’t require that I ever leave my couch huh?
Well, as they say, all good things must come to an end. I don’t know what has happened, but my pool of available titles has gone from over 200,000 to 0 in the past few months. LiveSTRONG, my bread and butter, shows ZERO titles available to me right now. I made a whopping $61 in October and $0 in November. They said they were restructuring, making sure all the titles that were strong ones, titles that could really contribute to the website. It feels like something else is going on though, and it just leaves writers like me to wonder where all the work went?
I wish the articles for LiveSTRONG would come back, it was nice to count on Demand Studios to pay a couple of bills. As it stands now, the only articles available to me are technical. I don’t know how to fix a refrigerator or build a house. I have absolutely no expertise in those areas.
So, it looks like the Demand Studios chapter of my life has closed and I must move to something bigger and better. That’s where this blog comes in. This blog has allowed me to write about things I truely love and am passionate about and in MY voice! Although it brought in a good paycheck, the dry and personality depleted articles I was writing was taking a toll on me. Through REALRealHousewife.com, I’ve discovered that I LIKE writing again. My prayer, however, is that it will soon generate an income for me to replace the one I just lost.
